Elasticity

The expansion and retraction of a material determines its elasticity. If material returns to its original length after being stretched, this is called elastic behaviour. If it does not return to its original shape, this is called plastic behaviour. If there is a crack under minimum expansion, this indicates rigid material. The interplay between plasticity without cracking and recovering to the original form is what defines elasticity.
