Hotel restaurant refurbishment
Historical charm and yet a modern maritime ambience reign in the Hotel’s Restaurant Port as well: Guests may here enjoy exquisite North German cuisine against the backdrop of the Port of Hamburg or, in summer, also with a view from the 170 square metre terrace. Renovations to the restaurant are now introducing even a fresh breeze: The restaurant’s design will bring to mind images of ports and ships of days gone by. This must naturally include a matching floor design: Parquet layer Tino Bamberg from Hambühren installed solid oak panel parquet flooring with an dark oiled surface to impart a stylish and at the same time noble appearance to the dining area and adjacent VIP lounge. Laid as panel parquet flooring, the floor is reminiscent of steamship salons in good old days. The parquet was supplied by the S. Fischbacher Living company, based in Großkarolinenfeld in Upper Bavaria.
Membranes against substrate cracks
It has been raining all morning this Tuesday, mid-March 2020, with grey skies over the piers. Bundled panel parquet flooring is stacked neatly inside the restaurant, where Tino Bamberg or his colleague will time and again start up the saw to cut the parquet to its required size. The installer is busy applying the adhesive for a new section, his colleague is busy already cutting the parquet panels. A full 335 square meters of flooring will need to be installed here, after all. The experts have of course prepared the screed well before the installation: The STAUF VDP 160 solvent-free dispersion primer is easy to apply and will dry quickly, with minor unevenness levelled out afterwards using the STAUF XP 20 self-levelling compound, mixed with clean, cold water in a bucket. Because the screed had some cracks, parquet layer Tino Bamberg decided to lay a STAUF Polyester felt, which he and his colleague then installed after prime coating and levelling with STAUF SPU 555. Since speed counted, the hard-elastic single component adhesive was the correct choice here. The STAUF Polyester felt will ensure that stress, cracks, displacements and movement will not be transmitted directly but will either be fully eliminated or at least greatly reduced.
Timeless beauty: Noble panel parquet flooring
The parquet layers are now using STAUF SPU 570 to install the wooden floor: The hard parquet adhesive impresses with very good thread formation and high shear strength. Tino Bamberg applies the adhesive with practised movement, using a No. 4 STAUF notched trowel, followed by his colleague meticulously placing the panel parquet in the adhesive bed. Several days of work still lie ahead of the Tino Bamberg team: Construction on site is scheduled for completion by end of May. For the finishing touch to the new Restaurant Port’s vintage look, the high-quality, brushed panel parquet flooring will be treated with dark oil once more – restaurant guests will, with this noble and naturally firm floor under foot, soon be enjoying North German cuisine and its regional specialities again. Whether Hamburg pan-fried fish, wild, skin grilled salmon or juicy suckling pig spare ribs with Hamburg apple coleslaw: The scrumptious culinary creations will taste even better when enjoyed in such a stylish ambience (and against such a breath-taking backdrop).
